Going on a tropical vaca to Maui? Lucky you! Before you can enjoy that blissful beach and Mai Tai, you need to pack up that soon-to-be checked suitcase and get somewhat of a game plan--even if that game plan is doing nothing on the beach all day. Tip #1, do not chose a carryon bag for any trip five days or more. But most of the ladies reading this already know that.
What should I put into that bag you ask? Good question but you're getting ahead of me! Here's a breakdown of what you'll want to pack based off a Maui itinerary.
Must Sees:
- The breathtakingly beautiful Haleakala sunrise on the east side of the island. You can experience it through the various group tours, including the death-daring bicycle tour down the peak post-sunrise for you daredevils, or own your own. Since you are not yet on Hawaiian Time yet, the early morning shouldn't be too jarring. Wear very warm layers and bring a blanket. Yes, it gets very cold up there early in the morning.
- Kaanapali's Whalers Village on the west side of the island. Shop around enjoy the beautiful weather this outdoor shopping offers you. Plenty of restaurants to choose from around there too. Wear chic, comfy sandals for the day.
- Road to Hana on the east side of the island. A word of caution... bring some anti-nausea medicine for anyone sitting in the backseat while driving up this famous curvy road. However, the pit stops along the way are what the word 'paradise' is built on. Luscious greenery and secret waterfalls await you. Wear old tennis shoes, a swimsuit and shorts. Bonus Tip: there's even a hotel to stay at up the top of the road, but be forewarned, there's one restaurant that closes early, no TVs in the rooms and nothing but hammocks and infinity pools to pass the time.
- Lahaina's historic village on the west side of the island. This is where the world famous Cheeseburger in Paradise is located. Be taken back to historic Maui and walk through the endless boutique stores, art galleries and more! Wear those same cute, comfy sandals you wore to Whalers Village and a maxi dress.
- Stay in one of Kaanapali's child-friendly hotels. While you relax by the poolside putting pina colada on your room tab, your little ones are tiring themselves out at one of the children's pools. Check out the Westin Resort Villas' Pirate Ship pool or the Hyatt's pool slides. Almost every hotel offers ocean activities right on their water fronts and includes snorkeling to paddle boarding. For days at the poolside, all you need is a swimsuit, cover up, no-slip sandals and some good reading material.
